In this project, a control concept for a district heating grid of the city Bad Langensalza was created. An existing grid model was updated and used for the hydraulic evaluation of the neuralgic grid points. The challenge in this project was the complex grid structure. The district heating grid consists of several meshes, some of which are located together. Furthermore, two feed-in points are defined.
These should be switched on and off according to the specified prioritization. These switching operations between the feed points require special hydraulic attention, since incorrect implementation can result in damage to the circulation pumps. In practice, these switching operations have so far been carried out by district heating engineers with many years of experience with the respective district heating grid. These experiences combined with the results of the EASD district heating simulation now form the basis for the new control concept.
As a result of this project, control processes, necessary measured values as well as control variables and setpoints were defined. Furthermore, hydraulic grid parameters at neuralgic points were calculated with the help of the heating grid simulation. These serve the project partners for further dimensioning and design planning.
